Loss is a universal experience. It is a normal and natural emotional response to change or grief of any kind--death, divorce, moving, financial changes, health changes, relationship changes and on and on! Grief is the result of unmet hopes, dreams and expectations as well as the loss of intangible concepts of safety, trust, security, respect, faith or hope.
Our society works with grief and loss in an intellectual way. Grief is an emotional response and it can not be ‘figured out’, ‘understood’ or ‘solved’. Intellectualizing grief is like painting a room with a hammer instead of a brush.
How is the Grief Recovery Method different? It is an ‘action plan’ that is a step-by-step process which allows and respects you, the individual. The process examines your current tools (since we can not agree to change without understanding how we are currently affected); learning new tools using reading and writing assignments and then applying them for a new outcome. These tools are used for any loss, although you focus on one loss at a time--usually the most recent one. At every step you are respected, listened to and heard without judgement or analysis.
Finally, this is an evidence-based program which is studied by Kent State University and has documented statistically significant improvements in grievers’ knowledge, attitude and behaviors towards loss.
